    In the U.S., Repsol has exploration and production assets in the Gulf of Mexico, the Marcellus shale in Pennsylvania, the Eagle Ford shale in South Texas, the Midcontinent in Oklahoma and Kansas, the North Slope in Alaska and the Trenton-Black River in New York .


    Repsol Oil & Gas USA, LLC, a U.S. affiliate, is looking to add an attorney to its legal department based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will primarily support the exploration and production operations in the Marcellus shale but will also be asked to support, from time to time and primarily remotely, other upstream operations in the U.S. as needed. This candidate will report to the Associate General Counsel at this office. The role will be primarily transactional, and the candidate will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of agreements. The candidate will also advise the company on a wide scope of oil and gas-related legal issues, including environmental matters.  The candidate may also be called to assist the Associate General Counsel with managing certain litigation. Candidates should be able to excel on culturally diverse teams.


    • Provide legal support to the exploration and production business on the full scope of its operations and projects;
    • Review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of agreements and other documents, including but not limited to:
      • Leases
      • Joint operating agreements
      • Surface use agreements
      • Other exploration and production agreements
      • Permitting documents for various regulatory bodies
      • Goods and services agreements
      • Confidentiality agreements
      • Intercompany services agreements for the shared services within Repsol;
    • Proactively make recommendations to protect the company's interests;
    • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to the environment;
    • Interact with regulatory agencies as required;
    • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and identify areas for improvement;
    • Monitor and oversee outside counsel fees and expenses and work product to maintain cost effective and high quality outside support;
    • Interface on relevant legal matters with colleagues in the United States, Canada, Spain and possibly other countries;
    • Work closely with and develop strong relationships with the Marcellus Business Unit team leaders to facilitate business goals and objectives;
    • Work as a team with other departments within Repsol to ensure issues are examined from all necessary angles;
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer;
    • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school and licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania or another U.S. jurisdiction;
    • A minimum of 5 years of relevant transactional experience working in a law firm, or practicing as in-house counsel for an energy company;
    • Experience working on environmental matters relevant to the oil and gas industry;
    • Strong negotiation and communication skills (written and oral) are required;
    • Must have the ability to manage a variety of time sensitive demands;
    • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, judgment, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills.
